On Poverty and Economic Opportunities
Dr. Hao Wang participated the CEOC candidate forum on October 12, 2023. In answering the questions, Dr. Wang highlighted eradicating poverty, absolute or relative, as one of his top priorities. Population density is a double-edged sword; we must better support our population with schools, jobs, and social infrastructure. We must grow our housing units AND protect our city’s character. It is a matter of “do both”, not “either … or …” He said that our city’s character was our neighborhood of neighborhoods and our friendliness to our seniors and businesses. Opportunity and healthcare are the two most important things to our low-income population. Poverty breeds homelessness, drug use, and mental illness. Dr. Wang wants to help our city to combat poverty, homelessness, drug use, and mental illness.
